Ruth O'Regan, MD
Dr. Ruth O'Regan is Associate Professor, Hematology and Oncology at the Emory Winship Cancer Institute and Director of Winship's Translational Breast Cancer Research Program. Before coming to Winship, Dr. O'Regan was at Northwestern University in Chicago where she was an assistant professor of Medicine at Northwestern Hospital specializing in breast cancer. While at Northwestern she worked with one of the world's leading authorities, Dr. V. Craig Jordan, studying the mechanisms of selective estrogen receptor modulator or SERM resistance. 

Dr. O'Regan is widely published in peer reviewed scientific journals, having published articles in journals, such as Lancet Oncology, the Journal of the National Cancer Institute and the Journal of the American Medical Association.  Dr. O'Regan speaks nationally on topics related to breast cancer, including the use of hormonal and targeted therapies.  Dr. O'Regan is a current member of the breast cancer scientific committee of the American Society of Clinical Oncology. 

A native of Dublin, Ireland, Dr. O'Regan earned her medical degree at University College in Dublin.  She conducted a residency in Internal Medicine and a Fellowship in Oncology at the Mater Hospital, in Dublin.  She did her U.S. residency and fellowship at Northwestern University, Chicago, and joined the faculty there in 1999.  While at Northwestern, she won the Compassionate Care Award from the Womens Board of Northwestern Hospital and the NSABP Young Clinical Investigator Award in 2001.

Sagar Lonial, MD
Dr. Lonial is an Associate Professor at the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University, and is also Director of Translational Research, B-cell malignancy program.  He staffs and works both on the transplant service as well as in the B-cell malignancy clinic.

Dr. Lonial completed his Hematology-Oncology training at Emory University, and prior to that received his internal medicine residency at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston Texas.  There he spent an additional year as a Chief Medical Resident at the Ben Taub General Hospital as well as the Texas Heart Institute and St Lukes Hospital.

Dr. Lonial has worked in the field of immunotherapy and cancer since his arrival at Emory, and in the previous year has spent time developing the B-cell malignancy program with respect to novel targeted agents in laboratory models as well as early clinical trials.  Dr. Lonial's laboratory work has focused on evaluating the impact of purified dendritic cell subsets on the nature of immune responses against antigen. 
Most recently Dr. Lonial has focused on combinations of novel agents as therapy for myeloma and lymphoma, and his lab has recently received funding from the MMRF.

Dr. Lonial has received the Lymphoma Research Foundation's Clinical Investigator Award as well as support from the V-Foundation and the American Cancer Society.  He is an ad hoc reviewer for Blood, Cancer Research, and other journals, and has authored or co-authored over 30 papers and abstracts.

Mitchell Berger, MD, MMM, CPE 

Mitchell Z. Berger, MD, MMM, CPE, is Chief of Service, Hematology and Medical Oncology at the Georgia Cancer Center of Excellence at Grady, part of the Grady Hospital System.

Dr. Berger comes to Grady from Norvartis Oncology in Florham Park, New Jersey, where he was National Director for Regional Scientific Directors.  Prior appointments include Medical Director for National Accounts and for Bone Marrow Transplantation at Roche Laboratories in Nutley, New Jersey; Senior Medical Director for Southeast Region at Aetna in Alpharetta, Georgia; and Director of Disease Management at Response Oncology in Memphis, Tennessee.

In addition to overseeing and managing Gradys Cancer Program, Dr. Berger sees cancer patients at Grady and Emory Crawford Long Hospitals. His interests also include evaluating the causes of health disparities and developing methods to reduce disparities in health care.

Board certified in Medical Oncology and Internal Medicine, Dr. Berger earned his medical degree at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School of the University of Medicine and Dentistry in New Jersey.  He conducted his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham, and a Hematology and Medical Oncology Fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York.  He received his Masters Degree in Medical Management at Tulane University in New Orleans and is also a Certified Physician Executive.
