Cancer is a complex disease, and everyone at Emory Winship Cancer Institute is dedicated to helping you beat it. Depending on the type of cancer you develop, you may see an advanced practice provider, medical oncologist, radiation oncologist, surgical oncologist, hematologist or other specialist. These providers, all members of Emory's group practice, received advanced training in specific forms of cancer and bring their years of experience and commitment to you. Depending on the treatment that is most effective against your cancer, more than one of these providers may be involved in your care. The Role of Advanced Practice Providers Emory Winship Cancer Institute, like other superior cancer centers, has nurse practitioners and physician assistants to provide you with effective and personalized care. These Advanced Practice Providers are highly educated and trained professionals with many years of experience. They are an integral part of each multidisciplinary cancer treatment team, working to track your progress, monitor the effectiveness of your treatment, and supervise the day-to-day management of your care. In most instances, Advanced Practice Providers are able to spend more time with you and your family, which enables you to ask as many questions as you like and stay well informed about your progress.
